PIANO TUNING AND REPAIR SERVICESTuningIn addition to being a beautiful piece of furniture, the piano is a complex musical instrument. A good stable tuning, regular repairs and adjustments will keep your piano functioning in top form for years. Seasonal changes in the humidity cause all pianos to go out of tune. Depending on where you live, the degree of humidity change from season to season, the quality and condition of your piano and how much the piano is played are all factors in determining the number of tunings required. Your piano manufacturer recommends tuning three to four times the first year and then two times yearly. However, if the piano is not played frequently the piano should be serviced annually, at the very least. Installing a humidity control system will make a significant difference in the humidity changes within the piano and make the applied tunings much more stable. During each service call we will check and tighten the pinblock bolts (and rim bolts in grands), check and adjust the pedals, check and tighten the bench bolts, and inspect your piano for repairs and adjustments that might be needed or recommended.Repairing, Regulating & CleaningAs a mechanical device, your piano action needs regular adjustment, this is called regulating. Parts swell and shrink as the humidity changes, wear out with use, or fatigue with age, requiring periodic adjustment, repair or replacement. Dust and grit can also prematurely wear out felt, leather and other wood action parts. Regulating and cleaning will prolong the life of your piano action. While new pianos usually arrive fairly well regulated, the felt and leather parts will wear in requiring adjustments during the first or second year. A well regulated piano is a joy to play, because it is more even and responsive.Concert TuningConcert pianos have service needs beyond those of the average piano. I am fully trained and ready to provide the exacting service concert artists demand. Some clients include the Palm Beach Community College, Ballet Florida, The Boca Ballet, Hunters Run, Indian Springs along with many other country clubs, churches, piano teachers, public and private schools.AppraisalsThere are many reasons you may want a written appraisal of your piano's value: when securing a rider on your insurance policy, insuring it for a move or before placing it in storage. When selling your piano, a written appraisal will provide a solid basis for setting your price and negotiating with potential purchasers. Purchase Consulting I am available to assist you in purchasing a new or used piano, either from a store or a private party. I will inspect a piano you are interested in and give you a 31 point evaluation sheet of the different parts of the piano. I am able to advise you on a piano you may be considering purchasing, or help you find the right piano at a price that fits your budget through our many contacts within the industry. This service may help you also avoid purchasing an instrument that requires expensive repairs. Although I am not a piano dealer and generally do not buy and sell pianos, I sometimes have clients wishing to sell excellent instruments and can help make the arrangements. |
